It is a conservative approach to your health. Chiropractors look at your structure as a way of affecting your well-being. Interestingly, when your spine is misaligned nerves in the area are modified in their electrical conduction. Chiropractic physicians look for these misalignments and correct them with a shallow, swift pressure. It is amazing to see the results of this simple action. The body restores nerve activity along this nerve path. A structural change brings about better health. Many things can be helped by Chiropractic: a chart of the nerves and the areas the affect is included here.
Headaches, temporal-mandibular joint problems, neck pain(one of my personal favorites to treat), rotator cuff problems, arm tingling/ numbness, thoracic outlet syndrome, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, Raynaud’s disease. Cervical and lumbar discs are very responsive to chiropractic care. We often use different techniques at the Bowers Chiropractic center because of the sensitivity of these two issues. A special traction technique is helpful is restoring the nerve health. No one knows nerve pinching like sciatic patients. It is classically an intense burning, linear pain that can travel down as far as the nerve goes. Anywhere the nerve has responsibility can be in pain. This injury is extremely painful, causing loss in feeling in the leg, weakness and inability to sit or drive in the car. Chiropractic patients that have been helped from this injury are fully convinced of the effectiveness of Chiropractic care. Many of my patients come in as a last resort to try avoiding surgery, shots of steroids and long-term use of pain-relievers. They are often find relief within a few visits.
Another amazing benefit of Chiropractic adjusting is the restoration of digestive and hormonal imbalances. There are many causes of these problems but misaligned vertebra is one of them. I have patients who come in for low back pain and are pleased to find there constipation, indigestion, bloating and acid-reflux improved by the Chiropractic care on their back.
Female hormone troubles are responsive to Chiropractic care! Often the speed of recovery has surprised me: I love the story of “Bonnie” who came into my office frustrated with her constant menstrual irregularities. She reported going 45 days between periods. She knew this wasn’t healthy and felt uneasy as to when her period would begin. It only took one adjustment, and she was back on 28 days like clockwork. Another patient “Jane” came in with constant bleeding for years. Her doctors were at odds as what to do so nothing had been done to give her relief. I found the very same misalignment in the low back that I had seen in “Donna’s” back! One adjustment and her bleeding stopped. I have rarely seen more euphoric patients! Often nutritional supplements have brought patients to hormonal health here as well.
I love the simplicity of Chiropractic care. One established patient came in for some back care, mentioning that she was pregnant. She had read that morning sickness might be relieved with Chiropractic care. At this point in my career, I had not treated many pregnant mothers. What followed astounded me. She had relief within minutes of the adjustment to her back! Shortly after this, I had a steady stream of pregnant, morning sick-mothers at the office! It is one simple and safe technique for nausea! Exactly what you want for prenatal care. I now have a special table making it much more comfortable for pregnant mothers to get adjusted in any position. Some of my biggest disappointments came in this arena as well. I had a friend who was sick all day with morning sickness. I offered to try this technique. She had only mild relief and continued to be unable to hydrate. She eventually had to be hospitalized for dehydration. Chiropractic doesn’t fix everything. It is one approach which can have far-reaching effects. But disease is caused by many things. No one should say they can heal everything. These are my experiences. People differ immensely in their ability to heal.
